Muddy, Muddy Monday

Posted by Amber_Mathewson at 01:22 AM on September 22, 2009

What a mess of rain we have been getting. WOW! I think we would have floated away, had we not been on a mountain.

Well, I hit the black halter jackpot today!! While cleaning the house, I found a brand new black rope halter that Montana had hid in her play pen full of toys. It fit Trouper pretty good but was a bit tight on the nose. I think that it could be stretched a bit, though. Also, mom found a black rope halter that she wasn't using and brought it over for Trouper to use until the EMM. So, that solves my black halter delima.

Since it was so muddy, I decided to make up a little obstacle course and work on my "in-hand" work.

I laid out 4 pipes and a log, I draped a bright yellow safety vest in a tree, I laid out a bright orange pool noodle and I hung a plastic table cloth from a branch. I put it all up all around the yard.

Trouper wasn't too sure about the table cloth at first. Especially when it was anywhere near his face.

I worked him with it for a little while.

Whenever I would pass by the tree with the safety vest, I would drape it across Trouper's back, neck or rump.

Here we are walking calmly under the table cloth with the vest over Trouper's rump.

He did really well over the pipes, log and pool noodle!

Oh yeah, Trouper has developed a new bad habit!! He chews on his lead rope while he's tied up. GRRRR!!! LOL He had a long black one with the little leather piece on the tip and he has chewed two big spots into it! You can see the frays under my left hand and above my right hand. The little menace! I need to find a nice long black lead and put it up just for the EMM.

Trouper went with me to check the mail. He was intrigued but not at all worried. LOL

I also worked on leading Trouper at a trot. He did very well and stayed right by my side!

Jamie came home from work while I was working with Trouper. Montana and I were happy to see him and so was Trouper. He leaned from me to greet Jamie.

We thought this would be a good opportunity for a family photo. Of course, Montana was more concerned about getting her hands on Trouper and I was cracking up! LOL

Montana is such a little horse lover!! I have a feeling that she will take Trouper away from me one day if I get to bring him home.

Montana asked (ok, she begged) me to let her hold Trouper's lead rope. Of course, her wish was granted.

How magical is that? A horse that was wild just 9 weeks ago (aprox 2 months) is now being held by a 2yr old girl out in the yard! This is such a beautiful experience!!! I'm so glad I am able to share it with all of you!

with great posts like this you are pricing your own dream horse out of reach! If I were you I would start getting him to buck and rear and bite and no one will want him.... LOL

LOL Well, I'm hoping and praying that none of my blog followers will bid against me. It would take a pretty mean person to do so. LOL

SHOOT! I was planning on getting me a real mustang!! he he.
Seriously, I hope everyone understands how the bidding works.
IF they want to help you get him, they SHOULD NOT bid on him, at all. All that would do is raise the price you would have to pay, and it could easily get out of your limit.
If someone wants to help you get him, they need to either donate it to you before the auction, or sit with Jamie during the bidding and let him know when he runs our of money, that they can cover another bid, to keep ya'll in the running.
Also, I want to thank two wonderful ladies that have sent donations in to the "Bring Trouper Home" fund. The checks will not be cashed until the week of the competition, unless you contact me.

Saw your response! Boy did I get confused. I clicked an old link that took me to two weeks ago. I read that about the vet visit and thought, "Oh my goodness, has Trouper hurt his leg again?" And was concerned about that. But I just went to an old link. You wouldn't think I work in the IT industry, would you!
Anyway, glad Trouper is doing well. Great to see the work you are doing with him. It's really instructional for the rest of us as we work with our horses. Take care,

Trouper's coat is far more impressive than any of my 8 horses. I know you've used the cowboy magic on his mane and tail, what else have you used beside just the "hourly" grooming session's?

We have been giving him a Show Sheen supplement also in his nightly feeding. He is getting a winter coat already, but it's shedding off somewhat. LOL
Also, any area where his hair was missing when he came (like from sores, etc) I would massage M.T.G. into them. Well, now those places have longer, healthier looking hair on them. LOL It's quit hilarious!

Yeah, what Jamie said!! LOL That's what I meant to say. My mind is fried! I had a bad migrane yesterday that I'm still getting over and my brain is mush.
Yes, it's ShoGlo! I think it's made by MannaPro. It's great stuff!!!

You guys are just progressing right along and looking awesome! I love the photos of Montana and Trouper - so, so sweet. This is when I wish I was monitarily wealthy and I'd be there to make sure you got Trouper. Prayers are an amazing thing though, and I know God has answered so many of mine. Thank you for keeping us informed of your progress. Your blog is so much fun!
